Potty Training

Well, it has officially started. Alain is starting to figure out the potty. While he has been getting the idea about SITTING on the potty for a while, it wasn't until a few days ago he actually really WENT on the potty.

I think only recently did he start to really understand when he actually goes. He also generally lets you know that he has pooped... unfortunately it is usually after :)

It will be nice if we can get him trained in the next few months, I think he will like it better and I know WE will too...

Meeting Brief Submitted (Almost)

So I finally finished the revision of my meeting brief. I never thought writing a paper would be so hard. Normal paper sure, have all the words you want, just don't make it too long. This brief needs to be no longer than 500 words MAX (though the editor nicely expanded it to 550). 500 HUNDRED WORDS! Remember in school when you had to write essays and you had to have between 500 and 1000 words and you scrapped together 500 words using "and", "the" and as many adjectives as you could to get to 500? Try the reverse... not easy.

But, it's done (essentially). Wrote up the reply to the reviewer and hopefully our new draft will require only a few tweaks and not anything major for the next go round (I'm sure there will be one!). I hope politics don't come bite me in the butt either. Too many people and projects at the meeting to mention them all so I had to be careful to be as inclusive as possible.

Now I have to get this damn data processed and off to Kathryn so she can think about the paper she is writing. I have plenty of ideas for her, as long as I don't have to write it... I already need to write 3 others and I am waiting for a draft from a co-author for another...

Ah well... such is life.

Daddy don't go to work

"Daddy, don't go to work" or "Daddy stay home" are two of the things Alain is starting to say. It makes it hard to go but usually I explain that daddy needs to go to make money to buy food for you to eat. He is usually okay with that. Plus, the weekend is always a bonus for him!

If he is awake when I get home (from his nap, not bedtime) I am usually swarmed by the dogs and him - with him screaming "Daddy's home!". That always feels good. He is always willing to tell me his adventures for the day too.

It does make me wish I could spend more time with him. I think he just got used to having me around a bit more from vacation. I know I got used to having him around :)

First Post

Well, here it starts. Well, not really since I have tried blogging before. But my new mission is to try and have an entry at least every couple of days.

Who I am?
I am a father, a husband, an academic and an all-round good guy (in my opinion anyway). My son is near 3. When they say time flies by, they really mean it too! Seems like just yesterday he was learning to walk and talk. Now he does what every child his age does... runs and continually talks.

What do I do?
Well, during the week I go to work as a research associate in space physics despite my son's objections. On the weekend, it seems to be work of a different sort. Owning a home apparently is a lot more work when the home is a little older. At least I get to play more then too!

Why am I here? (That is, on the net or more specifically deciding to blog now)
Well, I seem to be reading more and more blogs and using Google+ a lot. I figured it was time for me to get out there. However, I've needed to challenge myself to do something new. I'm trying a "thing" if you will. Do something new or stop something bad every month. Do it for at least 1 month and hope that things just continue on...

I have lots of things to say. I'm opinionated (right or wrong), stubborn and not one to back down from a fight easily.

I hope to get some followers eventually. Maybe someone may actually read this post someday. I think I'll make a trade mark of ending every post with a new quotation (relevant or not to the post).
